Sultan Muhammad Shah (14th Sultan of Perak)
The birth name of Sultan Muhammad Shah was Raja Bisnu, and he was the son of Yang Dipertuan Muda Mansur Shah. He was also the younger brother of Sultan Muzaffar Shah III (13th Sultan of Perak). During the reign of Sultan Muzaffar Shah III (13th Sultan of Perak), a misunderstanding occurred between the two royal brothers, which had a significant historical impact on the state of Perak, leading to the division of the Perak Sultanate into two. This event took place between 1742 and 1743. At that time, Raja Bisnu was appointed by the high-ranking officials who supported him as the Sultan of Perak, with the title Sultan Muhammad Shah. Sultan Muhammad Shah ruled the lower part of Perak, while at the same time, Sultan Muzaffar Shah III ruled the remainder of the state.
There was an incident where Daing Celak (Yamtuan Muda of Riau) brought the Bugis to attack Perak in 1742 to intervene in the power struggle within the Perak Sultanate. Not long after, Daing Celak returned to Riau, and subsequently, Sultan Muhammad Shah and Sultan Muzaffar Shah III reconciled. Sultan Muhammad Shah relinquished his title as the 14th Sultan of Perak to allow Sultan Muzaffar Shah III to continue ruling the state of Perak.
Sultan Muhammad Shah then returned with the title Yang Dipertuan Muda and resided in Pulau Tiga. Sultan Muhammad Shah passed away in 1750 and was laid to rest in Pulau Tiga with the posthumous title Marhum Aminullah.
The original location of Sultan Muhammad Shah's tomb fell into the Perak River and was relocated near the tomb of Sultan Mahmud Shah I (8th Sultan of Perak) during the reign of Sultan Idris II. References:
