Sultan Mahmud Shah (8th Sultan of Perak)
In 1627, Raja Yusuf or Raja Bongsu, who was the younger brother of the late Sultan Mukaddam Shah (6th Sultan of Perak), was appointed as the 8th Sultan of Perak.
Iskandar Muda Mahkota Alam, who was the Sultan of Aceh at the time, appointed Raja Yusuf as the 8th Sultan of Perak to succeed Sultan Mansur Shah II. Raja Yusuf adopted the title Sultan Mahmud Shah while holding the throne of the state of Perak, and this 8th Sultan of Perak reigned for 3 years. It is said that the seat of Sultan Mahmud Shah's reign was located in the Geronggong area, near Kampung Gajah.
Sultan Mahmud Shah passed away in 1630 and was laid to rest by the banks of the Perak River, in Kampong Tok Melor. After nearly 300 years, the tomb of Sultan Mahmud Shah was relocated from its original site.
This was because the original site of Sultan Mahmud Shah's tomb was located so close to the Perak River that it was at risk of falling into the water. Consequently, the tomb of Sultan Mahmud Shah was moved to Kampong Melayu.
The tomb of Sultan Mahmud Shah (8th Sultan of Perak) is located in the same area as the tomb of Sultan Muhamad Shah (14th Sultan of Perak). It is easily accessible by various types of vehicles due to the well-maintained paved roads. Not much information is available regarding the story of Sultan Mahmud Shah (8th Sultan of Perak). Limited historical records pose a challenge for the present generation to uncover the true events that took place in the past. References:
