Should a Marriage Course for Polygamy Be Established in Perak?
The state government, through the Perak Islamic Religious Department (Jaipk), has been urged to create a pre-marriage course module specifically for couples wishing to enter into polygamy in Perak, ensuring the objective of such marriages remains aligned with Islamic Sharia principles.
As reported by Sinar Harian, Titi Serong assemblyman Abu Bakar Hussain stated that the recommendation to provide a pre-marriage course for those intending to practice polygamy is crucial to ensure that the households built meet religious requirements rather than being driven by desire. Although polygamous marriage is considered a sensitive issue, Abu Bakar emphasized that it is permitted under Sharia, especially as it can help curb adultery and social ills that are currently spreading. "The issue of polygamy is an unavoidable human issue; some may not want it, but others do. So, rather than practicing polygamy without guidance, it would be better for Jaipk to provide a special pre-marriage course module for those interested, whether free or paid. At the very least, this group would be exposed to the true objectives of polygamy, thereby preventing such marriages from being carried out merely to satisfy desires," he told the media here yesterday. Abu Bakar added that as an initial preparatory step, he suggests that the Perak Islamic Religious Department (Jaipk) organize polygamy courses for all levels of society, without limiting them only to those intending to marry in the state of Perak. According to him, knowledge regarding preparation for polygamous marriage must be disseminated to everyone openly to broaden the local community's mindset on the importance of polygamy and, at the same time, potentially dispel negative perceptions surrounding it.
"I believe the Perak Islamic Religious Department (Jaipk) is capable of preparing a special module deemed appropriate for the needs of polygamy based on Sharia to be exposed to the public. At the next stage, the Perak Islamic Religious Department (Jaipk) could make it mandatory for any couple wishing to enter into polygamy to attend a pre-marriage polygamy course based on the developed module," he said. Meanwhile, in other developments, Abu Bakar also urged young couples about to get married to avoid "celebrity-style" weddings. According to him, celebrity-style weddings refer to marriages held grandly and stylishly, yet failing to last long due to the couple's inability to lead a household based on Islamic Sharia.
"I am not saying all celebrities are like that, but if we look at the trend of marriages involving celebrities, most end in divorce. Therefore, I want to remind all young couples to lead their married lives according to Islamic Sharia to attain blessings in their marriage," he said. What are your views on this matter?
