Perak is truly famous for food from various cultures, such as Mi Rebus, Rendang Tok, Satay, Nasi Kandar, Murukku, Bean Sprout Chicken, Kacang Puteh, White Coffee, and much more. Every district in this state has its own unique culinary specialties.
In Ipoh, most of the popular food is characteristic of the Chinese community, such as White Coffee, Bean Sprout Chicken, and Chee Cheong Fun. Most of these Chinese dishes can be found in Ipoh Old Town or at various kopitiams. Those who have never tasted White Coffee might assume it is a white-colored coffee, right? But in reality, it is black coffee that releases a different aroma compared to other coffees and has a brownish-white foam.
It is different for the Indian community's food here. Among the most famous are Nasi Kandar and Kacang Puteh. Nasi Kandar, or better known as 'Nasi Ganja', is most delicious and favored by the people of Ipoh at Kedai Vanggey on Jalan Yang Kalsom and the Dato' Sagor Food Court. To taste Malay cuisine, don't miss the chance to enjoy Mi Rebus at Restoran Mi Rebus Ramli and grilled fish at Restoran Tasik Raban, which is renowned for its village-style cooking.
When you stop by Taiping, don't forget to try the famous Mi Udang Banjir (Prawn Noodles) in Kuala Sepetang. Kuala Sepetang's location near the Strait of Malacca makes it a seafood paradise for dishes like Prawn Noodles and Prawn Fried Rice. This food is very easy to find at stalls along the Taiping-Kuala Sepetang road. The price of the food depends on the size of the prawns, ranging from RM6 to RM15. A popular prawn noodle stall here is Gerai Mak Teh.
Besides that, Taiping is also famous for cendol. The popular cendol in this town can be found at Gerai Cendol Bismillah on Jalan Stesen and Cendol Kamunting. In Kuala Kangsar, this cendol is served alongside the delicious Laksa Kuala Kangsar. Visitors can enjoy both dishes at the Kuala Kangsar Food Court while overlooking the beautiful scenery of the Perak River bank. Regarding the laksa, Laksa Kuala Kangsar is distinct from laksa found elsewhere due to the thickness of its broth.
