Perak State Government Provides RM5,000 Contribution to Families of FRU Personnel Killed in Teluk Intan Tragedy
The Perak State Government has provided a contribution of RM5,000 to each of the families of the nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who perished in a horrific accident in Teluk Intan on May 13.
Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, explained that the contribution was decided during the Perak State Executive Council (MMK) meeting as a gesture of sympathy and support for the victims' families.
“Previously, the state government also provided similar assistance to the families of the victims of the helicopter crash at the TLDM Lumut Base. Now, we have approved a similar allocation to ease the burden on the families of the FRU personnel who perished in this tragedy,” he explained.
The contribution was managed by Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBUDR) and officially handed over to the affected families.
He said this after officiating the launch of the Perak State Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and the Perak State Smart City Blueprint 2040 today. Also present at the event were the State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, and the State Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee Chairman, Mohd Azlan Helmi.
A Heartbreaking Morning Tragedy
The tragic incident occurred at 8:50 am on May 13, involving an FRU truck carrying 18 personnel from Unit 5 based in Sungai Senam. The vehicle was struck by a lorry loaded with stones while on its way back after duty during the Chitrapournami celebration in Teluk Intan.
The crash claimed the lives of nine FRU personnel, while nine others were seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment. This tragedy has not only caused deep sorrow among their teammates but the entire nation of Malaysia mourns the loss of these heroes who were on duty to maintain the country's peace.
With this contribution, it is hoped that it will, to some extent, ease the burden on the victims' families who have lost their primary source of income. The state government also extends its condolences to all affected families and prays that the souls of the victims are placed among the righteous.
