Perak Becomes the First State to Implement 'My Beautiful New Home'
'My Beautiful New Home' is one of the various programs and initiatives allocated in the 2017 Budget to support those in need. These houses will be built on the owners' own land, land with the owner's permission, or land granted by the state government. Perak is the first state to implement the 'My Beautiful New Home' project, with 50 housing units to be built at Batu 10, Lekir.
Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah stated that the project is designed to help the bottom 40 percent (B40) income group own their own homes. According to him, the selection of eligible recipients for these homes will be handled by the state government. The houses will be built using the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) concept, involving agencies such as the Ministry of Higher Education, which will engage students from Community Colleges and Polytechnics. "The government will subsidize half of the loan, while the other half will be borne by the buyer, with the aim of not burdening the buyers," he said during a visit to the project site here today. The project is expected to be completed by April, at which point the keys will be handed over. The 'My Beautiful New Home' project was provided with an allocation of RM200 million for 5,000 housing units, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 2017 Budget. Each house will cost between RM40,000 and RM50,000, with half of the cost covered by the government. The Perak state government has provided two sites for this project: one in Lekir and one in Mualim.
