Muslims Advised to Avoid 'Duit Raya Dance' Trend
IPOH – Muslims are urged to avoid the trend of dancing while receiving 'duit raya' during Aidilfitri, as seen in viral short videos on social media, as it is considered inconsistent with Sharia, especially when involving women.
Perak Deputy Mufti, Datuk Zamri Hashim, emphasized that such actions should not be emulated as they contain elements contrary to Islamic etiquette.
"As Muslims, this is not how we celebrate Aidilfitri. Some of the dance movements involve jumping around just to get 'duit raya'. Such things should not be practiced," he asserted.
He also raised concerns if such actions are performed by women, recorded, and then uploaded to social media for public viewing. "Such behavior is unseemly and can lead to slander (fitnah)," he explained.
The statement was delivered during the 'At-Tibyan' Q&A segment regarding Islamic affairs, which was broadcast live via the Perak FM Facebook page last Friday.
Pahang Mufti, Datuk Prof Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim, also stressed that the giving of 'duit raya' should not be mixed with the culture of dancing or begging on such a noble day.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Mufti, Datuk Dr. Mohamad Sabri Haron, warned that the trend could be considered haram (forbidden) if performed excessively and causes slander.
The 'duit raya dance' trend has become a phenomenon among the Muslim community this year, with participants performing movements such as jumping in groups before receiving 'duit raya' envelopes.
Recently, the 'Penguin Dance' also became a topic of conversation when some compared it to traditional Jewish dances in a viral video.
It is understood that the dance originated from Eastern Europe and is known as Letkajenkka in Finland.
