KPTM Ipoh, Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Ipoh
KPTM Ipoh is part of Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM), which was originally known as Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (KYPM). It was founded as a private higher education institution under the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555) in September 2003.
Introduction
KPTM in Malaysia is managed by Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). KPTM offers various educational opportunities in fields such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Accounting, Business Management, Engineering, Humanities, and Bio-Industry.
History of KPTM
Starting in January 1983, a Learning Resource Center was established in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, and in June 1983, Maktab Sains MARA (formerly known as Kolej Komuniti MARA) was established in Kuantan, Pahang, offering a twinning program known as the American Associate Degree (AAD). This program was well-received by more than 75 universities in the United States and New Zealand as a 2+2 transfer degree program.
This remarkable achievement later led to the establishment of KPTM Kuala Lumpur (1987), KPTM Bangi (1988), and KPTM Kota Bharu (1994). Several international strategic alliances were formed with the Northern Consortium of the United Kingdom (1988), the Australian Higher Education Consortium in Malaysia (1994), and the British Higher Education Consortium in Malaysia (1994), allowing students to continue their studies at several prestigious universities in the UK and Australia.
KPTM Ipoh, Perak
In Malaysia, there are currently 9 Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) campuses located throughout the country. These include KPTM Bangi in Selangor, KPTM Kuantan in Pahang, KPTM Kota Bharu in Kelantan, KPTM Semporna in Sabah, KPTM Batu Pahat in Johor, KPTM Alor Setar in Kedah, KPTM Kesedar in Kelantan, KPTM Kuala Lumpur, and KPTM Ipoh in Perak.
The state of Perak has not been left behind in receiving services from Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM). In the city of Ipoh specifically, the KPTM building is located at Wisma SSI, a highly strategic location in a central area of Ipoh.
History of KPTM Ipoh Education
The history of KPTM Ipoh education originally began with its establishment as the MARA Institute of Commerce (IPM) in 1996. Courses conducted at that time included short-term courses such as computer studies, languages, management, and school education, as well as one long-term course, the NCC Diploma, which was conducted in collaboration with the United Kingdom.
In 1999, a management change led to IPM being renamed Akademi Infotech MARA (AIM). In addition to continuing existing short-term courses, AIM also began offering a full-time long-term course, the Diploma in Interactive Multimedia, in collaboration with Edith Cowan University, Australia.
On January 1, 2004, Akademi Infotech MARA (AIM) was absorbed under the management of KPTM Sdn. Bhd. and renamed Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Ipoh, Perak (KPTM Ipoh). Armed with experience in conducting joint courses with foreign universities, KPTM Ipoh began offering its own internal course, the Diploma in Multimedia.
This study program received MQA accreditation in 2006, proving the college's continuous efforts to ensure quality education is provided to students. The change in status to a competitive private higher education institution (IPTS) has driven KPTM Ipoh to continue working hard to improve the quality of its education over time.
