First Female Village Head in Perak

Esah Ahmad made history after being appointed as the first female village head in Perak in 2016. The 56-year-old woman has proven that gender does not determine one's leadership ability.

Out of 810 village heads who received their letters of appointment during a ceremony in Ipoh in 2015, Esah Ahmad was the only female recipient. Armed with her experience, she is confident that she will be able to carry out her duties to the best of her ability. The first woman appointed as a village head is assigned to Kampung Balun, which is located within the Behrang State Legislative Assembly constituency. Esah Ahmad is among 288 Malay individuals newly appointed to shoulder the responsibility for a two-year term starting January 2016.

She was appointed as village head because she is a very hardworking person who is highly active in community affairs and has received acceptance and support from the villagers themselves.

Combating social issues and looking after the welfare of her villagers are among the resolutions of the first female village head in the state of Perak. This appointment is part of the state government's move to empower women. If women have the ability to handle the duties of a village head, they should not be hindered by gender factors. Women in Perak are not to be underestimated.
