Batik Air Launches Direct Ipoh-Singapore Flights Starting December 1
Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) is set to make history in the state's aviation industry as Batik Air Malaysia (Batik Air) officially announces the opening of the strategic Ipoh-Singapore route starting this December 1.
This move is seen as a new chapter that will further boost the potential of LTSAS as a major aviation hub in the region.
According to the Perak State Executive Councillor for Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development, Loh Sze Yee, this announcement is a significant achievement resulting from the state government's persistent and dedicated efforts to empower Perak's aviation and tourism sectors.
"With the participation of Batik Air, which will operate the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the Ipoh route is now more diverse, making it easier for domestic and international travelers to commute to Singapore for business, education, and family visits," he said in a statement today.
The success of these negotiations was achieved last April following strategic discussions between the State Economic Planning Unit (SEU) and Tourism Perak with the top management of Batik Air.
Loh explained that the selection of Singapore as the primary destination is based on its position as a key international tourism market and its role as an important transit hub for the people of Perak to reach other international destinations.
The introduction of this new route comes at the right time, in line with the encouraging growth recorded by LTSAS. The airport recorded a total of 540,000 passengers in 2024, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the previous year. As of last May alone, the number of passengers had reached nearly 220,000.
Confidence in the potential of LTSAS is also supported by an RM8 million upgrade project that was fully completed last April. This project successfully increased passenger handling capacity drastically from 240 to 510 passengers per hour, and annual capacity jumped from 500,000 to 700,000 passengers.
Commenting on future plans, he emphasized the state government's commitment to continue attracting more international flights to Ipoh.
The state government will continue efforts to increase the number of international flights to Ipoh and welcomes collaborations with airlines and the tourism industry to make Perak a more competitive international gateway.
